Evaluation of the in-home care pilot – Very Special Kids

Very Special Kids (VSK) is a children’s charity established in 1985 to support families who have a child with a life-threatening condition. VSK engaged HMA to undertake an evaluation of the in-home care pilot. The pilot aimed to provide flexible respite options to meet both the family and child needs and provide greater end-of-life care options for families. The evaluation objectives were to evaluate the effectiveness and efficiency of the pilot activities and to assess the suitability of in-home care as a service line in future. Key tasks included:

  • a review of documentation and a literature scan
  • development of an evaluation framework
  • qualitative data collection from participating families
  • quantitative data collection and analysis
  • consultation with VSK staff and other key stakeholders, and
  • synthesis of information and development of a final evaluation report.

The project commenced in September 2019 and was completed in February 2022.
