Greater Metro South Brisbane Medicare Local (GMSBML) required health needs assessments and service plans for two of the population cohorts supports:

  • Babies, young children and teens. The health needs assessment for this group separately examined:
  1. ear, nose and throat (ENT) heath
  2. early childhood development
  3. child and youth mental health
  • Older people (aged 65 plus). The health needs assessments separately examined:
  1. residential and community care
  2. after hours medical services for residential care

HMA was appointed by GMSBML as a technical advisor for preparation of the health needs assessments and service plans. For each population sub-group tasks undertaken included:

  • Identifying qualitative and quantitative measures of comparative, normative, expressed and felt need within the GMSBML catchment
  • Triangulating these measures of need to identify unmet needs, gaps in service delivery and barriers to enhancing care in the Medicare Local catchment
  • Conducting five workshops with key stakeholders to prioritise unmet needs and service responses required by the Medicare Local
  • Preparing action plans for consideration by Advisory Boards established by the Medicare Local

The project commenced in March 2013 and was completed in June 2013
