Nuclear medicine is widely used in Australia for diagnosis and treatment of disease. The preparation and delivery of radioisotopes for nuclear medicine involves complex manufacturing processes, and the short half-life of products affects all aspects of the supply chain including production, supply, pricing and service delivery. The Department of Industry, Science, Energy and Resources (DISER) engaged Healthcare Management Advisors (HMA) to undertake a scoping project to examine the supply and demand of nuclear medicine in Australia. The project was commissioned to support the effective and affordable delivery of nuclear medicine services for Australians and ensure that the Australian nuclear medicine sector is viable.
