Metro South Health (Queensland Health) engaged HMA to conduct a service plan for two clinical streams within the service. The clinical streams were for surgery and aged care and rehabilitation. This major metropolitan public health services included Princess Alexandra and Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Hospitals. The service plan had to inform appropriate location of services and beds throughout the Metro South catchment. Key tasks included:

  • analysis of current inpatient activity data for surgery and sub-acute services
  • geographic analysis of activity data
  • development of projections for demand over five and ten years based on projected population and demographic changes
  • modelling of the anticipated bed requirements including aged care places
  • consultations with key internal and external stakeholders
  • preparation of a final report

The project commenced in November 2012 and was completed in March 2013.
