Dental Feasibility Study – Commonwealth Department of Health (with KBC)

HMA partnered with Kris Battye Consulting (KBC) Australia to determine the feasibility of and identify the best approaches to expanding dental and oral health training into more rural and remote locations in Australia. The project focused on assessing the strengths and limitations of current strategies used by universities to conduct student placements in rural and remote areas using funding from the Rural Health Multidisciplinary Training (RMHT) program. Based on our findings the project team developed a series of options outlining suitable models for wider adoption by universities across the country. HMA was responsible for:

  • Working with KBC Australia to interview universities currently offering regional and remote dental placements to understand the successes and challenges of their placement models
  • Leading interviews with university finance personnel to develop costs for relevant placement models
  • Establishing cost models to support the final option specifications for future investment into rural and remote student dental placements
  • Working with the project team to develop suitable options for wider adoption across the country.

This project commenced in September 2021 and was completed in July 2022.
