The Australian Government Department of Health (the Department) engaged HMA to undertake an environment scan of perinatal mental health and wellbeing supports available in Australia. The key objectives of the environment scan were to develop a comprehensive map of existing perinatal mental health and wellbeing supports in Australia, including their scope and any eligibility criteria, identify gaps in service provision on a national level, and recommend possible inclusions of funded activities for future programs. Key tasks in the project included:

  • a comprehensive literature review
  • a desktop review of available services
  • a consultation framework
  • development, distribution and analysis of a survey to PHNs
  • consultations with service providers, experts in the field and jurisdiction Departments of Health (or equivalent), and
  • preparation of a final report including gap analysis and recommendations.

The project was completed in December 2019.
